Title: Slow 2.4ghz speeds, 5ghz fine
Post by: Vetkin on February 08, 2015, 02:14:10 pm
Just received a new Almond+ from Amazon with R069 installed and I'm having issues with speeds on the 2.4ghz network.  When sitting directly next to the router in my office on the 2.4ghz network I've been getting <5 Mbps down, usually around 3, but if I switch to the 5ghz network I get 100+ Mbps, and directly wired in I also get 100+.  Upload rate is usually between 10-12Mbps regardless of which network I'm connected to.

I've tried both the 20 and 40 wireless N modes, I've tried different channels, I've tried unplugging it to reset and plugging it back in, I've tried moving it, nothing seems to improve the speed over the 2.4 network.  At this speed it's basically unusable, as my game systems and smart TV in the adjacent living room can't connect at a fast enough speed to stream or download anything in a reasonable time frame.

I'm not sure if installing the beta firmware will improve things or make it worse, so I haven't tried yet.  I wasn't seeing this issue with the original Almond or with the Asus 87u that I sent back to Amazon for dropping connections.  Anyone have any ideas?

The beta fixes some issues with Wifi. New firmware should be out this month that's even better we have been told.

Changing 2.4Ghz to use 20/40Mhz bandwidth solved the issue of the slower speeds on the 2.4Ghz networks for me. Please give a try.

We'll have a new firmware either this week or next at worst, so please hang on for that as it has a bunch of related fixes.
