Title: Z Wave Door Chime
Post by: techvudu on March 05, 2015, 06:27:29 pm
Anyone have any luck with a Z-Wave door chime? I want a chime (not a siren) to sound when one of my door sensors is triggered. My Schlage lock has a nice chime when the door opens, but i would like a chime for my other doors as well. Not much on the net other than some pieced together components. Just figured I would check here. Thanks.

Aeon labs siren has multiple tones, which are apparently selectable for different triggers. I don't believe this is anywhere near working with Alomd+ yet however. Their siren was originally marketed as a siren / door bell optional though when it finally was released the door bell portion was removed and I haven't seen or heard of anything about it since.

I know... I wish that as well. My old security system would tell me stuff when I opened a door. It would say "front door open" or "don't forget to take out the trash" There has to be a way to do that...

I found this DIY... for a door chime with z-wave door sensor... seems straight forward... don't know if this would work... http://www.vesternet.com/knowledgebase/technical/kb-43

Saw some things about that, was hoping it was that simple. Hopefully soon that product comes to light. I would love to pick different tones/alarms for different alerts.

That link just takes me to the Vesternet site, I guess I need an account to view it. Thanks.

That's using the Fibaro door sensor and the screw terminals inside of it and connecting it to a relay and then to your current door chime. I guess it works, but hardly elegant.
We're working on adding support for the Philio Z-Wave siren that also supports multiple sounds and it can do double duty as a door chime http://philio-tech.com/products/PSE02.pdf

Neat thanks, little pricey at $80 though. Weird listing, said it had FCC approval but said fits EU boxes etc so I wasn't sure. Looks like it is backordered / not available on a few sites now. Looks available on others.

I don't know why that link is doing that. When I click on it it works fine. I don't have an account with them. Sorry about that. It appears to be instructions on how to make a contact door sensor work as a doorbell using a regular door bell. Maybe you can cut and paste the link to see if it works like that.

I have a PSE02-1B version, but it does not work on firmware R080. It can pair but it will not respond to any command.

Just saw this after I bought the Aeotec siren and realize that is is useless as a door chime due to the 88dB minimum sound level. :(

Can I use another door sensor to make the chime turn on?

So, Aeon doorbell and siren sensors are handled as binary switches in Almond+.

You can trigger them with rules as expected.

No configuration of 0x25 parameters though (chime/siren tone, volume setting).

Also, whatever the default run time is for the device is what you get, so the sirens go off for 60 seconds, and the doorbell plays the first mp3 twice.
