I recently plugged in a HD and FTP'd to it immediately using the address of the router. Now that I'm out of the house I cant connect to it. I've tried from several devices/addresses and none of them will connect. If I remote in to my PC at home I can connect to the FTP with both the internal address and the external address.
I plugged in the HD, ticked off Enable FTP and SAMBA, changed the password and clicked Save. Was there something else I was supposed to do?

Ok, so I haven't used that feature, but I'm guessing that you need to open up a port.
-
Thanks for the reply. Not sure where to open those ports. So I went to the Port Forwarding page and forwarded everything coming in on Port 21 to the Router (10.0.0.1). Rebooted the router. That did not work.

I think you didn't enable FTP WAN Access on LCD UI, that might be the reason, So if i am right then follow the steps below.
After Enable FTP server from WEB UI then Go to LCD UI Click on Settings App>WAN Access > enable FTP Access .

That worked. Thank you

We've blocked WAN access by default to web, SSH, FTP and ICMP as a security feature, so yeah, you have to enable them under the settings, WAN access option in the LCD UI.

Maybe a dumb question, but, what address do I use to access while I am out?
-
It is your external (wan) address. If you don't know what that is, then browse to https://www.whatismyip.com from inside your network.
