Title: Getting magicjack to stay connected behind Almond+
Post by: dustintodd on April 06, 2015, 12:21:54 pm
I don't have complicated home setup but I have a variety of devices one of which is MagicJack telephone adapter. It worked perfectly for years until I put it behind the Almond+. If I leave it plugged in for a couple hours it loses connectivity to the Magicjack service. Hoping someone else figured out why it fails after a few hours. Any suggestions welcome. Since it's tiny little adapter I have no way to troubleshoot it but to power cycle it.

This shouldn't be an issue if you are running R072. Please verify the SW version and perform a factory reset from the Web UI. If issue persists, probably the forwarded ports need to be checked. Contact support@securifi.com, should be able to sort it out.

So 72 didn't fix it. What are you recommending on the port forwarding configuration?

I got mine to work and so far I have about 12 hours with no problems. This is up from 20-30 minutes before.

Here is what I did:-

1. Upgraded to R072
2. Changed IP addressing scheme from 10.10.10.x to 192.168.1.x (Unlikely to fix the issue)
3. Increased the DHCP lease time to 10080 minutes (Not certain how much of a factor this might have been, but was quoted in an article about resolving MagicJack+ issues).
4. Assign a static IP to MagicJack+ (This would be needed for the next step).
5. Implemented DMZ for MagicJack+ (This definitely did the trick before, however it would work for 20-30 minutes and then drop again).
6. Disabled the 5Ghz network (I believe this may have played a role in stability in conjunction with number 3).

I had previously attempted to use the port forwarding but it seems as if MagicJack+ uses a range of ports from 10000 to 65535 in addition to 5060 and 5070. Port Forwarding never worked for me.

Also I switched the MagicJack settings (through the Magicjack login) back to DHCP and this worked.

You can probably go without step 2 and 3 above, and see if that works.

I will continue testing on this configuration for another 2-3 days and then re-introduce 5Ghz and see if I get problems.

I have had no MagicJack+ issues for 72 hours and call quality has actually been very good.

I made some adjustments 8 hours ago with the following:-

1. Reverting to 10.10.10.x network
2. Re-enabling the 5Ghz band and adding devices.
3. Added 3 devices to Home Automation (Schalge Lock BE469, GE Jasco Appliance Hub and Peanut plug)

Everything is working fine on R072. Will let this bake for a bit then probably fiddle with the DHCP settings to bring it back to default (24h)

Anyone else been able to solve magic jack?  Have almond+ on DMZ and it still stops working
