Title: Unable to connect my Almond+ to pppoe connection.
Post by: jadhad on July 03, 2015, 02:01:50 pm
Hi,

I've just received my Almond+ (long story) and I tried connecting it, using PPPoE
connection.
I've configured the same user and password and it tries to connect and
finish with 'Cable disconnected' (in orange).
Looking at the system logs I see:
AlmondPlus daemon.notice ... pptp called with wrong arguments, program not started.
AlmondPlus daemon.err pppt: Failed to set PPP kernel option flags: Inappropriate ioctl for device
AlmondPlus daemon.info... : Using interface pptp-wan
AlmondPlus daemon.notice: Cert: pptp-wan <--> /dev/pts/0

But these messages are related to PPTP and not PPPoE.

What am I doing wrong??

@ jadhad,

PPTP is similar to the PPPOE connection, which is used by most of the DSL services. First, we have to make sure that the status should not say "Cable Disconnected" try to connect the Ethernet cable properly which you have received with Almond+ unit and ensure that we get green light next to the Almond+ WAN port and the message under status icon should say either "Internet Disconnected" or "Internet Connected". Accordingly, you can decide if you have to run the setup wizard again to authenticate through PPPOE setup.

If you are still receiving the same message as "Cable Disconnected", provided the Ethernet connection from modem works fine then most probably it could be an issue with the Almond+ WAN port and you can get in touch with our support team at (support@securifi.com) to get your unit replaced.

Hi Ashok,

1st of all, thanks for the quick and very informative response.
From your response I can gather that the Almond+ has no DSL modem inside it? Do I have to connect WAN port to a
cable/DSL modem?
I currently have a D-link router that's connected to the phone line directly (in ADSL technology) and acts as a dialer
without the need for a modem, is this not the case in Almond+?

@ jadhad,

You are most welcome. Yes, Almond+ doesn't have any modem feature built-in to connect using RJ11 (DSL phone cable) and we can only use it as a normal router by connecting an Ethernet cable from the Cable/DSL modem. The D-link router which you are using is called as Gateway which has modem and router feature both.

Thank you for your help.
I'll attempt to acquire a DSL modem.

You could just set up your D-Link router as a bridge, it'll then just be a dumb modem and the Almond+ will tell it to dial as needed.
