I want to use the VPN server of my Almond +.
I've tried PPTP and that works successfully, but it's not secure.
I've configured IPsec but I can't connect to it with OSX 10.11.3, i've also tried with iOS 9.3.2
The Almond + is functioning in Access Point mode. It is strange because PTPP is working correctly.
I'm first trying it on LAN so I can make sure that port forwarding isn't causing troubles.
Almond + is running firmware AP2-R085-L009-W016-ZW016-ZB005.
I've entered the shared secret and account and password correctly. I've also tried Cisco IPsec on the client.
What is causing this issue?

@ intimidate,
In order to use the Almond+ as VPN server through L2TP/IPsec, we must receive public IP directly to the Almond+ and it has to be in Router mode.
-
I do not have access point mode enabled and have the same issue.
PPTP VPN works fine but IPSEC does not.

Are we making sure that the Almond+ is being used as primary router, where the WAN IP is received by the Almond+?
-
yes it is the only router and shows correct public IP.
-
@ spooky123,
Under the Add VPN users enter the IP address as 192.168.16.1 or something in that range and then try.
-
I have also just tried switching to IPSec and always get "server did not respond" All IP's are correct and PPTP worked previously I suspect that IPSec is bugged badly in current firmware.
-
Currently using IPSEC on Apple products and Windows 8 and 10 products. I'm on the most current update.
-
I'm getting an error with "The VPN Server did not respond" when trying to use IPSec with my iPhone.
Any advice on what to check?

Are you on the latest version of firmware? The latest firmware is the only way this worked for me.....in the Almond+ make sure you have selected IPSEC as the type and entered a pre-shared key. I use Android not iPhone but imagine it is similar... make sure vpn type is L2TP/IPSEC PSK and you've entered the matching pre-shared key.

I am getting the same error.

Getting same error on an iPhone. I haven't tested PPTP because... iPhone. Looks like I'm on R089. Is VPN Server good to go, or buggy right now?
-
Same here, not able to set this thing up.
-
same problem here, pptp works, ipsec not (from Mac & iOS clients).
(Latest versions of them and of Almond+ firmware)
any clue on when it will get fixed or how to fix it ourselves?
thanks

@ GiOrso,
We have not made any changes related to the VPN server, was this working fine for you before the upgrade?
-
didn't work before either.
always resorted to use insecure PPTP, but this is no longer an option on Apple clients.
-
I couldnt get it to work with the Almond interface but it works easier setting it up through OpenWRT. Had to make sure to select "L2TP PSK" n the client.
-
I am having the same problem "Server not available"? The A+ says it is latest version. Trying from my IPhone.

Just as a reference point it works for me but only when I'm *outside" the home private network.
If I initiate it while i'm in the house connecting to the house network it won't work.
With that said though, I did notice instability with IPsec VPN over the past few months while on travel:
1. it would generally work the first time I attempted to connect after rebooting the router
2. sometimes it will work if I attempt to connect hours after my previous connection attempt.
Mysteriously, I don't see this behavior in the past few days so can't complain much more.
