I have my almond+ fed by a motorola surfboard cable modem. when i run a speed test connected directly to the motorola wifi i am getting speeds of 70+Mbps, when i do a speed test connected to the almond+ wifi i am barely getting 8Mbps. i totally understand there is going to be a slight drop off in speed but 70+ down compared to barely 8 is insane. any insight or ideas why there is such a difference?

How are you connected to the motorola surfboard? I use one as well and haven't nearly that much loss.

I am connected by a cat5e cable running from one of the ethernet ports on the surfboard to one of the ethernet ports on the almond. Is there a better way to connect them?

Couple things to try:
1) Is the cable in the WAN port (the grey one with the little cloud icon)?
2) Do you have a different cable you can try? I have had bad cables before. Also make sure it is firmly seated.
3) Try rebooting the router.

I do not see a grey port on either the almond or surfboard, nor do I see cloud icon. Also, another odd thing I realized is the upload is fine off the almond wifi, similar to the upload on the surfboard wifi. It is only the download that way way off. Yes, I have tried multiple cables. Keep the advice coming! Want to figure this out.

Yes I am plugged into the wan port.

@ dartech,
Tap on the Status and let us know, which mode does the Almond+ setup and what about the LAN speed?
-
mode is set to router, LAN speed is just like the wifi. Just find it very odd when running off the Almond wifi the upload is fine, 7mbps-9mbps, similar to what I am getting off the surfboard wifi, the download there is a 50mbps difference.....

I would try a different cable if you can (I know it isn't always easy). Better to test simple solutions first. Where is your almond physically set up? Cabinet/ closet / wall mount / counter top etc? Also, is your surfboard a modem / router gateway or just a modem? Is it also broadcasting a wifi signal?
