Title: Loose wan port
Post by: umash on August 07, 2016, 12:50:45 pm
Hi,

Anyone figured out a good solution for the loose internet port? I am trying to hold the wire secure by trying to tie it to the plastic grate behind, but been largely unsuccessful. Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

@ umash,

This issue was there with first few units almost 2 years back and for those units the Ethernet cable which we provided was helping, did you try any cable which doesn't have any sleeve?

Ugh. I have had mine lying on its back for years, and finally got around to mounting it "properly" and now when we wash laundry (front loader -- can shake the whole house at times) one or both cables (WAN and the single LAN that goes into a switch) often come loose. Regular cables just don't seem to latch in your jacks. Very aggravating. Maybe if the firmware had an option for flipping the screen 180 degreees...

@Ashok, it's been a while now since I bought the a+, don't remember what cable it was. What was the modification on the cable? So that I can make the same change.

If anyone else has any other ideas, will be good to know.

@ umash, Immmmm,

We call it as a flat cable, but any cable which doesn't have sleeve should work just fine. Ensure that cable is inserted properly.

I've tried cables with and without boots. None seem to latch securely.

@ tastewar1,

It could be an issue with the hardware, reach our support team (support@securifi.com) for more assistance on this.

When did you ship out ethernet cables for the Almond+? I was a KS backer and my ports are loose as well. I have assorted patch cables and wires I terminated myself, most of them are prone to popping out.

@ thepartyplatypus,

We ave not shipped any additional Ethernet cables to any Kickstarter customers, what ever the cable we sent to all the backers was with out sleeves and flat cable which could be inserted to the ports easily.

I got my Almond+ from a friend. Most likely a kickstarter one. Without any network cables. I also have the issue of a loose WAN cable. I tried multiple cables to no avail. Anything I can do other than letting a friend solder a new port?

So, I had an exchange with support about this. Effectively, they said "try pushing *really* hard (first 'click' may not be really latching, but keep pushing)" and miracle of miracles, it worked for the cables I had in there.

Not long after, I replaced a cable (I really only have two going in -- one from "the Internet" and the other into a 24 port switch), and did not have the same luck. No matter how hard I pushed, I couldn't get it to latch. There's something decidedly wrong with the jacks that were used on those original units. :-/
