Title: Almond Android app update permissions
Post by: apu2009 on September 12, 2016, 11:42:40 am
I just got a notification that there's an update for the Almond app on my Android phone. When I tap on update, I get a prompt saying the app needs new permissions:

- Phone: "Uses one or more of: phone, call log. Charges may apply"
- Device ID & Call Information: "Allows the app to determine the phone number and device IDs, whether a call is active, and the remote number connected by a call"

What's the reason behind needing these permissions? I don't understand why the app that I use to manage my router would need to see my phone or call log, or why it would need to obtain my phone number.

This would appear related to the new Help features. Those include phone numbers to call, and for an app to trigger those (say you clicked on one to dial it) they would need the permissions.

Just how I see it of course.

Hi apu2009,

We need these permissions for the in app support features. You can now call Securifi support directly within the app.

Thanks fillibar.
