Title: Issue with Z-wave plus sensors
Post by: pial on November 05, 2016, 04:38:39 am
Hello,
I recently purchased some door and motion sensors from monoprice site which are z-wave plus. However, those claim to be fully backward compatible with legacy z-wave devices. First question, is Almond+ equipped with z-wave plus? My guess is, it is not. I have paired all of these devices successfully with my Almond+. However, the connection has been very unreliable. So far, only rarely all of the sensors worked together successfully. Most of the time some of these sensors work, others do not. If I restart the Almond+ it connects back to most of the sensors and then again looses connectivity after some some. By connectivity I mean, I no longer receive status update or notifications on the router from these z-wave plus sensors. Does anyone have same problem with z-wave plus sensors/devices and Almond+? Is this a know issue?

Thanks in advance.

Almond+ does not have Z-Wave Plus but that should not impact connectivity like you are seeing. I had Z-Wave Plus devices on it and if anything they seemed more reliable on average (mostly could be further away without losing connection).

Just a few questions:
Are the Z-Wave Plus devices replacements for ones that worked before? - If anything they should be working better...
How far is the Almond+ from the ones losing connection? - There may need to be a repeater. Most of them sounded like battery devices which rarely act as repeaters.
Do you have the latest software? - Often helps in general.
Do the devices have fresh batteries? - General question.

If it persists, I would contact support.

Thanks for the reply. These are not replacement devices. I am expanding my z-wave sensor collection. These are indeed battery powered devices and few of them are quite close to the router itself. I have z-wave thermostat which is not battery powered in close distance to those sensors, would that work as a repeater? My understanding is z-wave devices do mesh network to find optimal routing. Every time I restart Almond+ the connectivity seems ok for a while then some drops off until I reboot the router next time. I have a garage door sensor which is not z-wave plus and is as far as the farthest z-wave plus door sensor and it never lost connectivity to the router since installed. Also the other z-wave devices, thermostat, dimmer switch, peanut plug, garage door sensor never seem to have any trouble. So that give me the conclusion, these z-wave plus sensors do have some issues with the router.

Sounds like a sensor issue. It should be fully backwards compatible. I would switch all the batteries and bring them in closer and try again. When you paired them did you do so when they were close by? Some people have had issues with reliability when they pair the devices while they are too far apart (should be within a foot then moved to its final spot).

I don't believe it's a sensor issue. Every time I restart the Almond+ router all the sensors work fine. But as the sensors start sending data to the router, the sensor that sends most updates to the router dies first. Same thing happens for other sensors and after some time the router does not show any update from any of the z-wave plus sensors. If I reboot the router again, all sensors start to work again. The first sensors to die out on the router are the motion sensors as those are most active ones in terms of sending updates to the router. Anyone else had issues with z-wave plus motion/door sensors with their Almond+ router?
