Finally figured out what we need

Something like this http://www.smarttiles.click/ I hadn't seen this yet but it is just what I was looking for / hoping for the almond. It is a re-arrangeable dashboard basically. And it apparently works well.

Looks awesome,  but has a major drawback...

It's fully dependent on the SmartThings Cloud.

Yeah its built by a smartthings forum user. This concept should be able to work with other devices, just not this specific one.

GAH! Tile overload in the screenshots... but maybe something similar, and a touch more subtle.
Almond 3 mesh handling the home.

Lol yes yes we can discuss the merits of actual tiles all we want but a configurable dashboard is something I have long wanted. This one even allows inputs from some other sources like cameras and weather info etc.
