How to set time and time zone?
« on: February 11, 2015, 07:26:33 pm »
How do I set time and time zone?
When I set the time on the router screen it complains I am x number of hours off.
When I log into the router and select rules it shows time with incorrect day and hours but minutes are ok.

My pc has correct time and time zone and correct date.
How can I get the router to be correct?

If I select auto sync on router display it comes back wrong.
Thanks
Scott

For the time being, you have to select the time zone in OpenWRT.
Go to System/System and select the time zone based on country and city from the drop down list under Timezone. Click Save and it should be set. You can also sync the time with your browser here.
We're going to make this a lot more sensible to use in the near future, it's just somewhat complex as we have to take a lot of things into consideration when doing this.

Lars I did what you said in OpenWRT, but the Almond still shows a time 14 hours ahead. Does this mean my rules won't work?

Ok, got it working! Thanks lars!

Two things got me, I missed the time zones in wrt. I was looking for traditional US defined zones, my mistake, the other was I set the time zone and saved  but did not have the clock up on the router so I could observe the same change there! No need to change router once saved at wrt as described by Lars!

I set up a rule for front door light to come on and it worked, so I set the off rule which will work in the mornings! Yeah!

Then I set rules so when door light comes on, driveway light comes on, then same for off and they work fantastic!

Again, thanks!

That's an interesting idea Shark. I have been fighting trying to get my light rules to work with multiple lights. I never thought of using trigger to turn on 1 light, then using that light as a trigger for the others. I am going to have to try that and see if it works better.  I was trying if lights A,B,C,D are off then turn lighta A,B,C,D on. Then I wrote 4 (8) separate rules for each exterior light.  I'll have to try your idea of If light A is off turn it on, then if light A is on turn on B,C+D. If light A of off turn off B,C+D.

Thanks for this idea! It's a nice workaround to be able to set up groups of lights by having one light on/off turn all others in a room on/off.

Lars

Yes I am wasting your time but at least I want you to know that the Almond+ group clearly have been working hard and the product shows that.

I am basically stating I was able to find all my answers without posting.  I wanted an AP and when I received none existed.  But yes I found your posts about the new firmware and it gave me the AP mode.  Then I was searching for the time zone since it was showing UTC time and again I found the info on your site, this time in the forums.

Been in the IT field since the mid 80's and I have a bunch of experience with new products, new software etc.  You guys have done a very good job here and I am just saying THANK YOU.

I know you guys rarely hear it so I felt it was warranted.

From what I have read even the users are being polite here.  Must be because many are from Kickstarter still as the Plus is so new I assume.

Again, Thank you

Doug

Not wasting time, good to know you found answers to your questions.
Do check out the Wiki as well.
We're also working on adding more instructions to the blog.

Been away for a few days but I coulld monitor my lights with webcams! They worked perfectly including the triggers that worked off the main light switch!

So now my front door light is on a timer, my exterior garage lights an front yard lights are triggered and come on and off with front door. Net affect is one light switch controls all and they are all on the same timed schedule! Sweet! Time to buy more zwave outlets and switches!
