Well, it's a combination of issues, but we expect to have most of those issues fixed soon.
We expect a new public beta firmware towards the end of next week now that will have a new Wi-Fi driver that should fix those issues.
Home automation is being tested internally and we expect to release it next month.
Notifications is in the next firmware, that we sadly had to pull due to some bugs related to just notifications, although this will require updated apps, but this is coming.
Can you give us some more details about the freezing issue? That's not right.
I haven't got anything to test DLNA with, but I was told it works by the software team.
USB drives work, just not well with SAMBA outside of Windows, we're working on getting this fixed.

Yes, we're really really late with a lot of things and I can only apologize about it, it doesn't mean we're not working on it.

I would just express how I'm impressed with the patience of the staff dealing with people so sure of having bought a final product with a fully completed development phase.
Geez guys, your "paperweight" is still developing with the help of the involved backer community and the securifi staff. If you want finalized products, please try to avoid Kickstarter most of the time, that will prevent unproductive posts in the forum.

I'd also like to express that I'm happy with my Almond+ and supporting the development of a piece of hardware that is most often in the hands of multi-national corporations. I applaud the innovation and vision, and understand the complexities in delivering a "complete" product. No, it's not yet "finished", but it is capable and getting better.

Thanks much, Lars. I wish all my IT staff had the tact and patience you've demonstrated; a dedicated professional who is passionate about the product and vision.

Ciao,

Tyson

I am another happy Kickstarter backer. Lars and team provides great feedback. I find it fun to follow how they are doing the development. If I wanted a completed product, I would just order a Netgrear or something off of Amazon.

I completely understand that the product is still developing.

When I funded the kickstarter project All I knew was that the product was suppose to deliver Sep 2013. ( suppose to be working and functional)

I disconnected my nexia service based on the plans that my almond+ will take over in early 2014

I funded this basically for home automation and DLNA.
I can't do both of those even after 1 year when it was promised.

I funded the project in early 2013 without knowing that it will still be a "developing" product until Q4 2014

Thats why I am frustrated.

anyway, I just shared what I was feeling, didn't mean to say that you guys are not working. All I was saying that there should be some kind of control and pressure and visibility on schedule
I have no issue when things are visible and you know what is going to happen when.

Well, we did sort of start over back in May with a new hardware and software platform. Sadly we've had a lot of issues with that platform that has lead to delay upon delay.
I'm not trying to make excuses here, trust me, I'm as frustrated as you are, as I want to fully functional product as well.
Things are starting to come together and hopefully we'll be able to share the initial automation implementation with everyone within the next month or so, as we've started testing it internally now, but there are still a lot of things we need to sort out with regards to the logic and user interface, so I don't want to make any promises as to when it'll be done.

Here I created a test environment to be able to test the Almond + knowing that it would be a device which needed to be seasoned with the help of the Kickstarter backers.

That said I left my current firewall in place and created two more WAN interfaces for just the Almond + devices.

In this test mode I can use all of the functionality present in the Almond + (IE: automation, firewall, automation and cloud services) and not touch the currently configured firewall infrastructure.

Anybody can do this easily.

Just connect the Almond + to a LAN interface on your current combination switch, firewall, AP, router stuff or utilize a multiple network port software firewall (here using PFSense).

This will allow the user to continue using their current topology LAN to WAN to Internet the Almond + features.  This will allow the user to test / participate in the Almond + Kickstarter and fall back to their current stuff.

I do kind of compartmentalize my testing on the Almond +.

One day just testing wireless; another day just testing automation stuff or a combination of all of the features while concurrently continuing to use my current firewall infrastructure.

Updated improvements relating to firmware upgrades have no effect on my statically configured stuff.

The attached picture shows an overview with one Almond + device connected to a separate WAN port on the firewall.

I am testing here using using a broadband ISP and a cellular 4G connection (either one or the other or both).

Not included in the below drawing is the Almond device and a modded TP-Link microrouter (with is now hardware and software modded using Open-Wrt).
