Almond+ and Airplay with Non-AppleTV
« on: November 12, 2014, 08:26:05 pm »
I have a Marantz NR1603 receiver which supports airplay.  After installing the router I noticed that I could not airplay music to the receiver.  I can see the device on my iphone/ipad but when I select the receiver, my iPhone "hangs" and then selects "iPhone" as the airplay device.

I have an AppleTV and this works perfectly well including mirroring.

I initially thought it was IOS 8 and not the router but....

1.  Contacted Marantz -->  they verified airplay works over IOS 8 with the Marantz receiver.
2.  Used an IOS 7 device with the same results
3.  Plugged in my old Linksys and it worked.

Am I missing something in the setup (ie. port forwarding).  I didn't see anything in particular, but don't know what to look for to fix Airplay.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have the same setup as you, but I do have Airplay to a non Apple device.
I have an iPad, and a Minix X8 with XBMC, and XBMC has built in support for Airplay.
It is not something I use very frequently, but I fired up Spotify and enabled it to stream over Airplay, and it worked perfectly.

Some things to look for is if they are on the same network, in my setup both were connected to the 2.4GHz Wifi.
I don't think UPNP is used for the internal network, but try to enable it to see if this does any difference.
Also note that some firmwares have trouble with Apple devices and the 5GHz network, so try and connect your devices using the 2.4GHz network.

I'm streaming iTunes via AirPlay to a Bowers & Wilkins A7. The iTunes source is on the 5Ghz network and the B&W is on the 2.4Ghz - I'm sorry to say it "works for me (tm)"

I haven't made any changes to the base setup sorry...
