Black US Almond+ for sale
« on: November 21, 2014, 10:54:11 pm »
I have the regular black Almond+ for North America (US specifically) for sale. It works as expected, doesn't emit noise, and has the most recent firmware installed. I'm selling it because a number of features that I need don't seem to be priority firmware additions so I need to fund something else. Post here or PM if interested. I'll try to check 2x per day.

Can I just ask what's missing?
It's not as if we've given a detailed plan of what we're working on so I just thought I'd ask what you feel isn't there.
I know a lot of things are missing, but it'd be nice if you'd at least share your thoughts, as it's not like we're happy to see comments like this.

The biggest one for me is WPS so I can get my wireless photo printers online. I run a business that requires me to print large format images on an as needed basis and I can't do that since they only connect via WPS (printers fault, not Almond+). Still, I asked about this and I was told "we're working on fixing some more pressing issues right now." And that was almost 2 months ago. The removal of AP mode means I can't even set it as an access point for my AirPort Extreme, so it's essentially useless now.

I understand that you guys are working out the bugs and I know you don't like hearing unhappy news like this, but WPS is a basic wifi feature and this router is now over 3 months on the shelf (and launching publicly soon at that). Lastly, I don't have time to visit these forums every week to see if there is new firmware (since the WebUI doesn't allow for checking/auto updates yet) so I'm just going to sell it and revisit this as an option down the road when it's more mature.

WPS - Yeah, this is a problem for some and it's something we need to get sorted out.

AP mode - You can still enable it in the web UI until the next firmware is done when it'll be fully working and back in the LCD UI. I got the first internal release of the new firmware today and the new drivers are looking really good so far. Hopefully it won't take us too long to have a release firmware with this.

It's not a matter of being happy/unhappy, it's feedback and it's something we need to take into account. I think some of us have underestimated how widely used WPS is and I'll push for this again. That said, in our survey, not many people seemed to bothered about it.

As for firmware updates, if you've installed R069, all future firmware updates will be possible to do via the LCD UI.

I'm sorry that we haven't met your expectations and the same goes to all of our other Kickstarter backers that are having issues with the product, it's now how we wanted things to end up, that's for sure.

It's not really a matter of expectations being met. I'm very happy with my Almond+ to a degree. I knew going in that it wouldn't be feature complete. No regrets there. But now that the feature set impacts my business, I need to reevaluate what's best for me at this moment in time.

Also, for feedback sake, I have a number of WeMos that use zigbee and I had hoped those would be supported (on UI or app)  by now because of their prevalence. Someday maybe.

Fully understood and it is a matter of meeting expectations, as clearly we're not meeting yours and you're not the only one.

Most WeMo devices are Wi-Fi, not ZigBee. The only ZigBee devices they do are their bulbs, which should work, although we haven't tested them. That said Belkin supports the Sylvania bulb that we fully support.

Router sold. Thanks for the interest.

As for the WeMo bulbs, I couldn't get them to connect. Thanks anyway.

I just installed my first Wemo bulb ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MMLTUII/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00MMLTUII&linkCode=as2&tag=alforum-20&linkId=Z6RKYWFS4AME2BBW), bought from Amazon, and using with R066. Incidentally, the lamp is nicely bright, and also nicely diffuse. Turning on, it immediately returns to the previous setting. When asked to turn off, it slowly ramps down over several seconds to about 20% and then shuts off.

Went to the Almond+, hit Add sensor, it paused briefly after saying to push the devices connection button, which the lamp apparently doesn't require/have,  and then it began connecting to and downloading information from the bulb.
Went back to the sensors page, selected the new lamp sensor, and adjusted the light level.
Started Almond+ on the phone, tablet, and also on the web interface and was able to control it.

Did have some slowness issues with the Almond+ app being slow and having some connection timeouts, reporting delays of around 14s, or could not connect, when trying to adjust light level.

With the Almond+ web interface, if I wait for a "Refresh and Retry" tooltip, then the next adjustment works every time. If I try before that, it sometimes fails to adjust.

Thanks.

So I decided to update to R069cb. The Almond+ android app now performs a bit differently, but not an improvement.

When I adjust the slider for the MultilevelSwitchOnOff device, it adjusts the device to the chosen level while display a notification of updating the sensor, but then immediately after the slider returns to the previously indicated value (ie, 0%). The display then reads "On , 0%", and the light is on at the chosen level. At R066, the app did what you'd expect. The slider stayed at the chosen level. I have another app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.the12lab.almond.app that I used prior to and after the update; it performs the same with both FW.

When I started the app, it indicated the level was 0% even though the light was on around 75%.

Lars, if necessary I can move this to a new thread.

We got new apps coming, but as explained, they've been delayed due to some work done on the notifications backend.
I've seen the same dimmer behaviour and I'm not sure what was changed, but yes, it's annoying.

Edit: Apparently it's a firmware issue and they've fixed it, so the dimmer stuff will work properly in the next release.
