Use as router or range extender?

I just bought an Almond.  Cool product.

In my home network, I have a cable modem with wireless built in.  It doesn't cover all the way to the other side of the house though.  I have one of the wired ports on the cable modem run all the way to a room on the other side of the house.  The wireless signal there is weak, so at first I wanted to use the Almond as a range extender.  However, since I do have a wired connection back to the cable modem, would it be better (faster connection) to use the Almond as a router instead of a range extender?

In fact that's a better way to connect. You can connect the Almond hardwired and set up as Access Point. The benefit would be almost equivalent speeds as the gateway (router modem combo from ISP), which might not be the case when used as wireless Range Extender because of wireless interference and variables.
