Roadmap, feature set, and timeline
« on: January 12, 2015, 10:26:41 am »
When I first backed the Almond+,  it was a perfect fit for me,  I needed a new AC router and I needed a new HA controller and the A+ looked stellar for both.  After the delay,  I bought a different AC router but everybody can use a bridge/extender and I was still confident the A+ would be the best HA controller on the block through its capability and programmability.   Progress on the HA front has been excruciatingly slow which leaves me with a big question mark on how to move forward with my HA needs.

The communication from Securifi and Lars has been very good,  especially in comparison to other companies.  He obviously spends a good portion of his day answering questions on this forum.  The problem is the scope is very short term,  firmware release to firmware release, bug to bug.
As a backer what I would like to see is the longer view,  what the roadmap is,  exactly what features/capabilities are planned and (approximately) when,  especially what kind of API and programmability will be available, and what sensors will be expected to be supported and when.
Honestly,  its been so long and there have been so many changes I dont even know what the final product is anymore, I think the hardware was the focus for so long.

This would be an awesome addition and I would like to throw my support in for this request as well.  I've considered purchasing an additional router or HA controller on several occasions over the past 6 months, considering the progress of the Almond+ and for other reasons (mainly not throwing all my eggs in one basket with a unified device).  I'd love to continue supporting the Almond+ however I can, but if certain features are a long ways out I may consider picking up another product to supplement my immediate needs.

Over a week and absolutely no response whatsoever.

Ive been extremely patient ,  given you every benefit of every doubt, defended securifi to people who have complained about all the delays,  and stayed positive and constructive even this far along.  but to not even be able to answer a simple question about the plan and timeline either shows  complete disregard for the people who funded your development or complete ineptitude in project/program management and development because you dont even have a clue yourself.  And the truth is probably a whole bunch of of both.
Im now 100% done with you securifi,  your ineptitude and failure stands out even in the graveyard of crowdfunding disasters.

But hey, you already swindled me out of money for a router, and a ton of sensors I cant even use,  so I guess the jokes on me!

This is a "Community Forum". This is not a support form,
If you need a response from SecureFI, then go to the support page.

Also, hostility and attacks won't buy you any favor.
Be nice if you expect any sort of response.

You're unlikely to get product development roadmaps
unless you are a measurable part of the bottom line.

Pitching in $100 for beta access to pre-release hardware is nothing.
Getting the hardware before release was the reward for that.

No, that's not at all the case, I've actually been trying to get some kind of response from our software team and CEO on the matter.

And do you honestly think we don't care about our backers/customers this far in? I'm the technical marketing manager at the company and I spend a lot of my time here in the forums trying to answer the questions as good as I can, but I don't always have an answer there and then.

I'm sorry to hear that you feel like we've swindled you, when in fact we're working hard on making the Almond+ a better product. Then again, you paid $99 for a product that has a retail price of $249, so I'm sure you'll be able to get your money back and then some from a happy person on Ebay or Craigslist if you no longer want your Almond+.

I don't have a detailed roadmap, but have you tried the latest beta firmware? That should give you an indication of where the automation is heading.
Are we going to be at the same level as Vera? No, we're not. As I've stated in the forums before, our goal is to make an easy to use home automation platform, although we do fully understand that many of our backers wants something more advanced.

What we're working on is to get the automation to a state where it's reliable and easy to use. After that, we'll be adding support for scenes. We're also working on improving the software overall and adding the features we promised when we started this project on Kickstarter. We're going to continue to add support for new sensors and devices and I just heard yesterday that Nest support is close to done.
It might seem at times that there's little progress, but many of you keep forgetting that we're a small company, we're not Asus or Netgear that can throw 100's of people on fixing an issue if there is one.
We've quadrupled our software team since I joined the company, but even so, the company as a whole has less than 60 employees, of which half are software engineers.
