Can't get Almond+ connected to the Internet
« on: January 13, 2015, 11:54:20 pm »
Got the A+ today and I cannot get this connected.

I have Comcast cable modem with Coax from the wall into the Cable Modem.

I run the wizard to set up the A+as a router by plugging an Ethernet cable from cable modem to A+.

At the end of the wizard it says I'm connected to the router but not to the internet.

I also have the cable modem setup so all the ethernet jacks in the house can have wired internet access.

I've tried to connect the A+ directly to cable modem and to an ethernet jack in another room.

I've tried setting up the A+ as both a router and range extender but I can never get an internet connection. The wireless network works from the A+ but I want it to be directly connected to the cable modem.

What am I doing wrong. I cant even register the A+ since it's not on the Internet.

I've attached a diagram of my home setup as a visual aide.

For mine, I plugged the white port (left) into my existing router, and the black ports/wifi into systems.  Nothing magic required.

Some cable routers are configured to only give an IP to certain MAC addresses.  I'd verify that too.

Just to verify, have you tried connecting your computer directly to the cable modem to verify you can get out there?

Just wanted to respond to this thread since I had some issues setting the device up as well. A few things to check in case you haven't already. I had another router as well and for some reason I could not get the Almond+ to connect to the internet. It would say on the display that is was connected but I couldn't  access the internet.

I did eventually give up and decided to use the Almond as my main router for now. The issue that I found is that the Almond does not seem to like being set up as a secondary router. What you would typically do is run a network cable from your router/modem to the LAN ports of the Almond, after this is done the Almond should pick up the DHCP settings passed along from the main router. For some reason these settings don't seem to be passed along to any device connected to the Almond+ which prevents the device from connecting to the net.

A few thing you can check are:

1. Make sure that the IP addresses on your computers match the ones on the Almond's touchscreen. E.g. My network uses the 192.168.x.x range while the Almond defaults to the 10.0.x.x range. This will have to be changed manually in the router setup options.

2. Make sure that the cable from your router/modem is plugged into one of the LAN ports and not the WAN port of the Almond. Note: This might affect your ability to connect to the cloud services provided by the Almond.

3. Double check that the DHCP server is working properly on the router/modem and that all your devices are getting addresses automatically as soon as they connect to the network.

4. It may be possible to disable the router section of the modem and have the almond connect directly to the internet but you may have to check with your provider or the manual.

5. If all else fails get another modem from your provider that does not include a router and connect the Almond+ directly to that via the WAN port.

This information may not be 100% accurate since I'm still new to the device myself so take it with a grain of salt.

Make sure you have the Almond set in Access Point mode.

Had a similar problem, the solution for me was to turn all routers off, and start from outermost and turn them on in sequence (I think there was an insert in my A+ box advising this).

I know I know ...  there is little logic to it, but it really worked!!

Can you please tell us Almond + getting ip or not.
You can check it from LCD UI ...   status > network. Better if you can post the status > network screen shot.
Before this, do one thing Disconnect everything from Almond+ and Modem then reboot Almond+ and your Modem. Then connect Almond+ to your modem.
Check the status and tell us details with screen shot as i already mentioned above.
