SMB support for Almond 2015?
« on: April 22, 2015, 10:22:34 am »
I noticed that the Almond+ has SMB and FTP support for drives connected through the built-in USB ports while the Almond 2015 only has support for FTP, are there plans to add support for SMB to the Almond 2015?

@ stsmith,

As of now Almond 2015 doesn't support SMB, however, if there is any plan we would update that on the forum without fail.

Thanks Ashok, after doing a little Googling, I believe that I can map a native drive in Windows 7 using FTP....  http://www.redmondpie.com/access-ftp-sites-natively-in-windows-7/

I followed the steps in the article above and incorporated the settings from your the Almond 2014 documentation to map the FTP drive... http://wiki.securifi.com/index.php?title=Network_storage_-_Almond%2B_2014

After successfully mapping the drive and accessing the newly mapped FTP drive, it displays the root directory of the Almond 2015 but I can't find where it is mounting my external storage?  I followed the steps below:

1. Formatted a 16gb flash drive for FAT32
2. Plugged it into my Almond 2015's USB port
3. Accessed the Almond 2015's settings via the browser and checked the box to enable FTP
4. Mapped the drive path: FTP://<My Almond's Default Gateway IP>
5. Entered the router's admin username / password when prompted by Windows 7.
6. Opened the newly mapped drive and observed the root file directory of the Almond but could not locate the 16gb flash drive mount location.

@ stsmith,

You are most welcome. It seems like most probably the Almond 2015 software is not updated, hence, please do update the software to the latest version R085 directly through the touch screen (More-->Settings-->Check for Updates). You may also try instructions below, which would assist you in mapping the network drive properly.

Start-->Right click on Computer-->Click on Map Network Drive--> Under Folder type \\IP Address\ and browse to select your drive and hit finish.

Note: IP Address would differ depending upon the mode we are using the Almond 2015 and if you are using it in Router mode then by default it would be 10.10.10.254.

@stsmith: The USB drives are mounted in the "media" directory.

Hope that helps.
