Logging internet connection uptime?
« on: June 01, 2015, 02:06:38 pm »
I know there's a thing buried in the Almond+ (maybe in the OpenWRT stuff? I forget) that lists "uptime" but that seems to be router uptime.  That's fine and all, but I'd like to be able to see how often my cable internet goes out.

I have the Comcast/Xfinity "X1" system which seems to use a data connection for various interactions with the box (including pause/play/fast forward/etc in the DVR even if the actual video is stored on the HD) and I've been having intermittent internet connection issues for a while now.  Trying to work with Comcast to figure out the issue  but it's slow going.  Lots of sending reset commands to the modem and such.. have a tech coming out, again, tomorrow.  I don't think it's the Almond+ but regardless of the router working properly or not, I thought it would be nice if the router could log when it loses connection to the internet.  It displays it on the LCD but I don't see a way to log when it connects or disconnects.   Would love to be able to tell Comcast that it disconnected or the connection became unstable 10 times yesterday or something.

Any thoughts?

Sorry if this was answered somewhere else.  I searched a few times and didn't see anything beyond automatically sending emails when your router reboots.. but that's not what I want to log so thought I'd just ask.

Thanks in advance!

I agree that this would be a great feature to help troubleshoot faulty internet connections, like at our house also.
Thanks.
