Almond 2015 home automation is premature
« on: July 12, 2015, 12:16:36 pm »
I have used Almonds for several years as range extenders and wireless access points.
I have found them excellent for that purpose.

When I got an Almond 2015 from Amazon last month to use as another range extender, it came
with a Peanut and I found it supposedly could also be used for home automation, I thought
I would give it a try.

Turns out it is, at least, way premature.

I had in mind five or six electrical plugs such as the Peanut which came with the Almond and
which I could control either by time or by inputs from a light detector, motion detector, or key fob.

Even the simple idea of turning on and off a lamp at specific times of day won't work
because the Almond can't keep time correctly.

A later Almond purchase of the same item from Amazon not only doesn't include a Peanut but
I can't even find Peanuts for sale.

The Almond was supposed to be compatible with Z-wave but when I bought a Z-wave illumination
sensor it wouldn't pair with the Almond 2015.

So I bought a Securifi Motion detector from Amazon.  Description said it would work with the
Almond 2015 which I have.  It wouldn't pair either.

I now have on order a Securfi key fob and two Z-wave switches which I ordered when I couldn't
find any Peanuts for sale.   I suspect they won't work with the Almond either.

My choice would seem to be to return all the items to Amazon and give up on home automation
or to buy a Smartthings hub or a Veraedge Home Controller to try to use with the sensors and
switches I have already purchased.

Anyone have any comments or suggestions.

@ Woodsman,

Please try to set the time manually and then create the rules it would be working fine with out any concerns. Meanwhile, our team is working on resolving the issue and please note that this won't happen with most of the locations. Peanut plug was a free gift for the first limited units and soon we are going to release them on Amazon. Try to hold the pairing button for at least 15 seconds and release it on motion detector then try to pair it should work. Almond 2015 we have not added any support for Z-wave, our Almond+ would work with both Z-wave and Zigbee.

The home automation has been pretty good, but still can be a bit hit and miss.
I have about 5 GE light and one switch that work reasonably well but my 2 thermostats do not work at all. My Almond 2015 finds them and loads them to the app but when I try to change temperature I get random temp assignments no matter what I try to set the temp to, or it just fails to update I use the PEQ 3 SERIES ZigBee Touch Thermostat, White 3157100

@ chrowolf,

Reboot the Almond 2015 and then try to change the temperature couple of times and hit send logs, so that I could check with our team and get back to you with an update/solution.

@ chirowolf,

Most probably, the full support is not added yet on the app and that is why you are facing that issue. Hopefully, our next release may take care of it for you.

@chirowolf:

I also have two PeQ (Centralite Pearl) thermostats that I was able to successfully pair with the Almond 2015. I agree that setting the temperature via the app is not supported, however, all other functions (such as temperature reporting, Heat/Cool/Off, Fan, rules for turning on/off, etc. work.) I am hoping that future updates will correct the temperature setting issue as this is the only major thing that does not work. I can live with "status" section of the app not functioning (battery %, etc.)
