Greetings fellow Almond+ers. I just hooked up my Almond+ for the first time and was it ever easy! Now that I see how easy, I want to move the Almond+ but still use it as a router, meaning I still need the direct connection to my modem. So I have 3 related questions:

1. How far, realistically, can I have the Almond+ from my modem? (In other words, what is the maximum network cable length between the Almond+ and the modem?)
2. What type of network cable should be used? CAT 5, CAT 6, CAT 7?
3. Will I have to re-run the router setup after I unplug the Almond+

Thank you all

Welcome!
2) Cat 6 is best.
1) with Cat 6 you should be able to have a run of almost 300 feet I believe but I assume your distance would be much shorter.
3) no you shouldn't have to set it up a second time.

Also, if you are going to be moving the almond+, I recommend aiming for the center of your house to provide the best overall coverage, and try wall mounting it.

Any other questions just ask.

I'd recommend CAT5e and wouldn't bother with CAT6 as the benefits are virtually non existent in a 1Gbps home network. CAT5e runs can also be upto 100m (~300 feet).

Cheers

Depending on what you run the cable by, you might want a better quality cable to assure a good shield.
Make sure not to pinch or otherwise damage it while running it, and don't make any sharp radius/corner.
Before running it, make sure it fits well into the Almond+ port !!!
Always Always Always test the cable fully before using it. I made that mistake once, will not make it again (-mparadis)

In addition to @mr23 list of suggestions. Always Always Always test the cable fully before using it. I made that mistake once, will not make it again.
