Most Frequently Used Scenes/ Rules
« on: January 13, 2017, 01:01:42 am »
Hi Guys,

We wanted to know what are your most frequently used rules or scenes. We want to make setting up rules/scenes easier in the coming releases. Suggest what rules/scenes you would want to have by default.

Thanks and Regards,
Neeharika

The absolute most used Rules I have are 3 related to our smartphone.
IF Mode Home and Phone1 Inactive and Phone2 Inactive THEN Mode Away
IF Mode Away and Phone1 Active THEN Mode Home
IF Mode Away and Phone2 Active THEN Mode Home
I add in more of these Home ones when we have relatives staying for a week plus as well.

Most common Rules are ones about doors and windows (I think I have 12 rules like this). All are basically similar to:
IF Mode Away and Window Open THEN Alarm On

Not many scenes anymore except around Christmas where I turn on and off a bunch of outlets (for lights and other decorations). There are basically identical Rules except they have the IF for sunset and time... The Rules would be perfect to trigger the scenes directly.
Almond 3 mesh handling the home.

Scenes:
Bedtime - All lights off, doors locked, "home" mode
Home - Door(s) unlocked, entry lights on, exterior lights on, "home" mode
Away - Doors locked, all lights off (one light is actually left on for my pup), "away" mode
I also have several scenes set up for use with my google home via IFTTT such as Family Room Lights, Front yard lights, Bedroom Lights, Living Room Lights etc which are groupings of lights that I mostly group via their location for ease of use.

Rules:
At 2000 hours set bedroom thermostat to 63
At 2200 hours set bedroom thermostat to 65
At 0300 hours set bedroom thermostat to 63
At 0900 hours set bedroom thermostat to 60

(I work 3pm - 11pm most days for those wondering about the hours, though that is changing shortly :-D, and heat my house with wood mostly so my thermostat is supplemental in the winter)

I have a rule to restart my Almond+ if my Modem is restarted (via Z Wave wall plug) (I have comcast and it used to go down frequently until some network improvements in my area)

At 1700 hours turn on light(s).
At 0130 hours turn off light(s).

Most of mine are pretty simple. Such as

Door open then light on.
Motion detected then light on
smoke detected then lights on, alarm sound and nest off

Use these with my Nest Thermostat. There is apparently a bug with the Almond 3 shutting the Nest off instead of putting it into Eco mode. But the other rules work fine so it still works well unless it gets really cold or hot outside and the indoor temperatures go beyond the Eco mode settings.

If (my phone) is Inactive and (wifes phone) is Inactive Then wait 240seconds and set Thermostat to Eco mode.
If (my phone) is Active and outside temperature >67 Then wait 0 seconds and set Thermostat to Cool
If (wifes phone) is Active (same terms)
If (my phone) is Active and outside temperature <62 Then wait 0 seconds and set Thermostat to Heat
If (wifes phone) is Active (same terms)

My other rule is for a lamp upstairs with a Hue bulb that does not have a switch. Since i forget to turn it off I wanted it to shut off automatically, and since the Almond 3 sometimes thinks the bulb is off sometimes even if it is actually on I set it up with two rules that seem to be working like I want.

If (my phone) Inactive and Upstairs Lamp is On.....Then turn Upstairs Lamp Off
If (my phone) Inactive and Upstairs Lamp is Off.....Then turn Upstairs Lamp Off

Pretty much only use it for turning the outside lights on and off with the sun up/down.

I use rules like:
- workdays 6:20 am roller shutters sleeping room and childreen room up

- motion detection on upper floor between 7 and 10 am - then roller shutters in ground floor up

Combined with alexa- via IFTTT - all shutters / downstairs shutters / childreen shutters, etc. -  down on voice command

- between 7 and 10 am - arm system if device x, y, z are not online wlan (doesnt work often unfortunatly, system often arms even if x or y are still online)
- disarm if device x or y connect online wlan

Is there a way to set up one rule whether I’m home or away to turn on outside lights at a specific time and turn them off after we go to bed at another set time without having to make up separate home and away rules?
