Anybody try to get this to work with their Almond?

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Home-Decorators-Collection-Gardinier-52-in-LED-Brushed-Nickel-Ceiling-Fan-43260/206648825

The SmartThings folks have got it to work by writing a custom device handler. Will we ever be able to do the same?

Starting to feel like I might need to find something to supplement my Almond+ (maybe Home Assistant).

Asking here is a start. Did you purchase one of these yet? If so... Does it pair? From there people can send logs and that helps Securifi identify and work with devices if they did not already.

Securifi is always working to add device support but it takes time. Especially with how many companies are adding devices.

I am using a Linear WD500Z and a GE 12730 for each of our fans (one for the lights and one for the fans). So far the combination works well and just replaced the existing switched. But to have the fan "handle" it all would be useful.

I have not purchased it yet, but looking to within the next few weeks (possibly just the zigbee portion). I was hoping someone out there has tried this and could report back (a "guinea pig").

Out of curiosity, do you know the reasoning behind not being able to create your own device handlers? Or is that there, and I've just never seen it?

I am using the GE 12730 for my fans that have 14/3 ran to them, but would like a solution for the fans that only have 14/2 (single switch).

That 14/2 is a problem. At least if you want light and fan separate. I do not know of any of the retrofit-type products (like Monoprice's dual relay) meant directly for fan use. I mean, that would work just fine but would give you only on/off for each with no dimming or speed control. Be nice if someone made a ZigBee or Z-Wave compatible version of something like the Hampton Bay 68109.

As for custom device handlers, no the Securifi products presently do not have those. I do not know the reasoning behind it (I can think of many but those are just my opinions). No idea if that is something in progress or such either. Not sure if SmartThings has patented the idea either (amazing the stupid patents that can exist) or something PREVENTING them from doing it.

Yeah, the Enerwave ZWN-RSM2 says it's fan rated (per Amazon), but the reviews tell a different story:
https://www.amazon.com/Enerwave-ZWN-RSM2-Converting-Switches-REQUIRED/dp/B01G7OD3ME

This looks like the best bet, it's how to order the Zigbee controller out of the Gardinier fan.

If I do pull the trigger, I'll report back.

Yeah, hopefully they can make custom device handlers a feature in a future update. I think it's the one thing that SmartThings has that is better.

You really would only need the Wink Receiver, correct? For $32 that seems pretty reasonable. I have been trying to find two more of the GE 12730s... but one of those receivers (if that is all that is needed) would handle fan and light for slightly cheaper.

I just used their "Part's Request" form on their website. Supposedly should hear a response in 24 business hours. I will let you know if I hear anything.

Got a response. Because they could not find any order for the original fan (I did not include any order information, although those fields are optional) they are unable to help me.
They mentioned that if it was purchased from Home Depot I should contact them for parts.

Emailed Home Depot last night asking basically the same thing. I will let everyone know what their response is.

Home Depot's response:
You need to contact the manufacturer... So basically a loop.

Which is funny because emailing the manufacturer got me nowhere. Hunting eBay for a broken one... since I really do not care about the motor or light.

Looks like the kit will be $50 as of now. For a new remote and receiver (I believe just the receiver has the HA built in). http://www.homedepot.com/p/Hampton-Bay-Wink-Enabled-White-Universal-Ceiling-Fan-Premier-Remote-Control-99432/206591100?keyword=206591100. I just replaced my ceiling fan yesterday (not with the Gardinier) and was hoping to eventually install this but I don't think I will. Mine is a DC motor with 9 speeds, dimmable lighting and 3 comfort breeze settings. It is made by the same company so perhaps eventually they will release a compatible controller but I don't want to lose the functionality I have now with the remote control.

I like how it is unavailable in stores and not available online... So I guess this will be a placeholder. Too bad I already did the separate controls for fan and light... as this might have been nicer (I only have "cheap" 3 speed fans). Although I still have 2 fans I could use it for. Will have to keep an eye on it or some similar alternative. Still no luck on eBay unfortunately. Usually if they are "broken" already they are missing the receiver and remote (surprise) and I definitely do not need another fan.

Update:
So I picked up one of the receivers and a remote... My Almond+ picked it up with no issue, and showed it as a multi-switch. I am able to dim the lights, but unable to control the fan (on/off, fan speeds).

I could send the logs in, but it doesn't seem that there has been much activity in the way of adding new product compatibility.

Thoughts?
