I really like these... They do take an odd-sized drill bit for a perfectly snug fit.

These are now $16.99 with code RELAX. The external door and window sensor is also the same price with code.

1. Do these sensors work with Almond 3, even though they are not listed in the official compatible sensor list?

2. In general, do some other ZigBee/Z-wave sensors that are not listed in the compatible sensor list work with Almond 3? What should we look in the sensors e.g, in ZigBee Sensors. Is Home Automation profile sufficient? How about in ZigBee sensors?

3. Just purchased Almond 3, but it looks like very difficult to buy the PIR Motion Sensors in the official compatible list in the UK. As in 2, could I use some other Z-wave / ZigBee motion sensors? Is there a way / is it necessary to certify them with Securifi?

For example, investigating further Samsung SmartThings Motion Sensors should use ZigBee HA 1.2 profile - so should they be compatible with Almond?

Some answers from my experience:
1) Quite possibly. I do not have them but door/window sensors are fairly generic.
2) Very much so. I have a bunch of sensors that work fine or "good enough" (an extra sensor may not be listed for example). The HA 1.2 profile is important. I assume you meant Z-Wave the second time. Those generally work also (if you have a Z-Wave dongle). The best way is to ask here first (well, start a new thread asking) if there are specific sensors you are interested in of looking for. Someone might already have them. In general, the simpler the sensor the more likely it will "just work". If you get something and it does not, try resetting the sensor to defaults and pair again. If it still does not... Make a post with as much information about it as you can and send a set of logs from the Almond just after pairing it (and finding stuff missing or it does not work) or attempting to pair it. Mention the logs in the posting.
3) Very likely you could. I have had luck with Monoprice sensors and other motion sensors. I have about 4 varieties. Some work better than others.

As for the SmartThings sensor... I would think they could work. Do a search on the forum here to see if anybody has tried and mentioned it. Depending on where you buy them you may be able to return them if they do not work of course.

They do work with my A3 in the US.

Thank you very much for your replies. If we look at the Zigbee implementation on the Almond 3, it must be a ZigBee Co-Ordinator. I suppose to be able to connect ZigBee HA1.2 device to the Almond 3 depeneds i if Almond 3 supports the Device Profile used in the ZigBee End Device? (in addition to the mandatory properties)  So to verify the compatibility, is there a list of ZigBee HA 1.2 Devices that Almond 3 supports?

List of possible Devices (from ZigBee HA1.1 spec)
GENERIC
On/Off Switch 0x0000
Level Control Switch 0x0001
On/Off Output 0x0002
Level Controllable Output 0x0003

Combined Interface 0x0007
Range Extender 0x0008
Mains Power Outlet 0x0009
Door Lock 0x000A
Door Lock Controller 0x000B
Simple Sensor

LIGHTING

Dimmable Light 0x0101
Color Dimmable Light 0x0102
On/Off Light Switch 0x0103
Dimmer Switch 0x0104
Color Dimmer Switch 0x0105
Light Sensor 0x0106
Occupancy Sensor 0x0107

CLOSURES
Shade 0x0200
Shade Controller 0x0201
Window Covering Device 0x0202
Window Covering Controller 0x0203

HVAC
Heating/Cooling Unit 0x0300
Thermostat 0x0301
Temperature Sensor 0x0302
Pump 0x0303
Pump Controller 0x0304
Pressure Sensor 0x0305

INTRUDER ALARM
IAS Control and Indicating Equipment 0x0400
IAS Ancillary Control Equipment 0x0401
IAS Zone 0x0402
IAS Warning Device 0x0403

And then each of devices implemented is required to support a level of mandatory functions.

Does anyone has a list of which devices / functions Almond 3 supports?

(In other words I am looking for a compatability statement similar used in BACnet devices called PICS statement, http://www.bacnet.org/DL-Docs/ )

Such a statement would be very useful, as it would make it much easier to assess the compatibility, and I think it would also be a great sales argument for Almond 3.

There is the list of compatible sensors:

Although things are changing all the time so it is tough to keep current.
