LAN and WAN speeds choked?
« on: September 17, 2014, 11:54:42 pm »
Relevant facts:  Cable provider supplies connection at ~180 Mbps down.  I see full speeds when my computers are wired direct to the modem.  When I am wired modem through the A+ WAN and computers on LAN I connect around 95 Mbps down.  Cable co. tells me it's the A+ hardware which is choking my connection.  I've not engaged in any dickery with the configuration of the A+ and I'm still on the AP2-R064 firmware.

Issue: Whether this is simply a configuration issue with my A+ or a hardware limitation of the A+ itself?

Not sure why you are seeing this issue.

I am using the default configuration of the router, with pretty much nothing changed at all and I receive 120 Mbps down plugged in directly.

I am supposed to receive 110 from Comcast, but consistently get 120.

If you get 180 Mbps plugged into the modem directly though, and half that through the A+ something is certainly going on.

Are you using the provided cable to connect the Almond+ to your cable modem? A 10/100Mbps cable could potentially be causing the problem you're seeing.
Also, please upgrade to the latest version of the firmware which is currently R065, although we're hoping to release a new version tomorrow.
We have not seen any performance limitations like this over the LAN or WAN ports.

Cabling shouldn't be an issue, running Cat 6 between all devices, but I'll swap em around just to be sure and pull down the latest firmware in the morning.

Update: Tried it with both cables, included cable actually dropped my speeds to ~80Mbps went back to ~95 on the Cat 6.  Updated firmware and tested again with Cat 6, now pulling 86 Mbps down.

That's really bizarre, can you have a look at the WAN port to make sure it's not been damaged somehow?

Swapped it out with my other A+ and my second unit works fine at speed.  Can't see any obvious damage to the 1st unit's plug.  What kind of damage might cause it to drop speed but function in all other respects?

Bent pins or something like that.
Please email [suspicious]support@securifi.com[/suspicious] and they'll be able to help you arrange to have the faulty Almond+ replaced.

This seems the same issue I had/have. Using the LAN/WAN I am topping out at ~35mpbs on a 150 Mbps using the Almond + with my virgin media superhub (http://forum.securifi.com/index.php/topic,1752.0.html).

With the modem connected to the WAN Port my download was hosed, if I connected to the LAN I got my much faster speed back, but it meant my WIFI had no internet so was not a viable solution.

The19th had helped me out with that post, and said

I've been reading reports on another topic that the A+ using firmware R065 may be introducing garbled packets when crossing from WAN to LAN.  It may explain why you're seeing faster wifi speeds compared to your current wired connection.

Is this the case or should I also request a replacement if updating the firmware doesn't help (away on business right now, will do this Monday when I'm home).
Thanks in advance.

Possibly yes, as this doesn't appear to be related as far as I can tell and I have no problem hitting over 100Mbps on my connection at home.

This isn't exactly what you guys are talking about but since I updated to R066, my speedtests have been but in half.  I know there have been and still are issues with speeds on iphones but Ive always been able to go above my download limit on my computer ( download limit is 60 ).  I am getting 25 if Im lucky.
I rebooted computer, router, cable modem, etc etc.  Still same issue

That's really odd as no changes were made to anything relating to this in R066 compared to R065.
