Samba - new directories created in the disk
« on: October 26, 2014, 05:12:59 am »
Hi, I have a disk connected to my PC but I want to connect to the Almond+ and use it for another PCs without having the big one connected. OK.

I am using R066, the latest.

When I connect the disk to the USB port and enable Samba, I can see the dik with Windows Explorer but I also see that it has created some additional blank directories within my structure:

In Windows I have:

Disk H\Music\Bach\Cantatas; CD1; CD2; etc
Disk H\Music\Beethoven\Symphonies; CD1; CD2; etc

But in some directories, not all, it creates directories with content and name like:

Disk H\Music\Bach\Cantatas; CD1; CD2; "   "; "    "; etc

Also I use special characters like á; ä, etc. and these appear "wrong". Can I force UTF-8 ?

Also when I try to point to the music from a player in the network it just aborts, the program stops responding. If I have the same disk connected to a Windows machine everything works well.

Does this happen to anyone else ? Any ideas ?

Thanks

I had the same issue using the folder/file name with Chinese characters.
I tried to force it to use UTF-8, but can not.
Had post a question in here for a while, but no positive feedback.

bonobo1234, what do you mean by the same issue, the characters or the creation of additional directories ?

Thanks for replying.

I've reported this to the software team.

Thanks.

Both issues ? Directory creation and UTF-8 ?

We have some general issues with Samba, the goal is to get it updated to a more recent version and fix these problems, but we've had some more pressing issues to fix first and we're nearly done addressing those.
UTF-8 is supposed to be the default setting in Samba though according to the config file.

Any news for the Samba issue ?

Let me tell you that I am deeply disappointed with the router. Several months delay, a lot of problems, no Samba server, etc.

By the way, any news for sensors/actuators for controlling blinds (up/down with chrono) ?

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

The drive mounting has been fixed for the next firmware release.

We won't support blind controls for the next firmware, but hopefully the one after that, we have one of Fibaro's roller blind controllers that I know they've started work on.

Well, I have upgrade to R70.

I have a formated disk (FAT32 or NTFS) and I connect it to the USB in Almond+.

I enable SAMBA server.

And i do not see the disk.

Can someone please explian me step-by-step what to do ? I followed the instructions and I still do not see the disk.

Also, is there any any special disk structure with directories such as /mnt, /share or similar where the data must be ?

Thank you

So I just connected a USB 2.0 Seagate drive to the USB port on the Almond+. I have the latest firmware (not beta). R70
I turned on SAMBA and FTP and after about 5 minutes, "almondplus" appeared under shared. I am using a MacBook Pro (mid 2011) running Yosemite. I clikced on it, logged in as "almondplus" and password that I set (default is "password") and I am now transferring my movies to it. ( am going to get a flash drive USB3 when I can get a good one on sale (256 GB) to speed it up.

VERY HAPPY. Going to point my plex server to it and try streaming video from it. Will let everyone know how it goes.

Thank you

I had two drives hooked up on versions 69 but the drives kept reproducing themselves and making more drive letters. I updated to version 70 firmware and now it will only let me attach one drive. I have both Samba and FTP turned on and have rebooted and it will only give me one drive. Any ideas.

I formated 2 pens (2 MB and 8MB) in NTFS. In W7 explorer it does show Almondplus but no disks.

Yesterday I could even see the disks in the Mount Points but not in Explorer.

Today I formated the disks and created a Folder in them and I cannot see them in Mount Points.

One question: should I enable Samba, FTP or both ?

Samba for sure but FTP ? Why ? Why both ?

Can we use OpenWRT to chenge any file in order for the router to detect the disks ?

Yesterday I configured my Raspberry Pi to serve as a NAS. It took me 30 minutes to do so and I already have lost many hours with this this. Waiting for this release that should solve the problem but it doesn't, at least for me.

Should I do a total reset and start from scratch ?

Do we have access to /etc/samba to look at the configuration file ? Can we configure it by hand as we do with Debian ?

Help please.

You can SSH into the Almond+ and you'll have full access things like the Samba config file.

I'm not sure why some of you are having problems, but as I pointed out elsewhere, the drives are mounted a bit differently in this firmware as they're under \\ALMONDPLUS\[volume label]
I've noticed some devices don't behave properly unless they have a volume label, so please make sure your drive has a volume label.

When I formatted both pens (as you imagine these are just for trials), I named them Disk 1 & Disk 2 and created a directory in each one just to see if that was the problem.

Well, I think I got it.

When the name of the disk has a space (Disk 1), it is not recognized but if it doesn't (Disk1), it is recognized.

I tried several times and this is the rule, at least with me.

Can someone check this ?
