DHCP stops working after a few days
« on: April 23, 2015, 07:12:21 pm »
I have a raspberry pi I ssh into.  After a few days I'll reboot it and DHCP won't give it an address.  None of my other devices get addresses either after a reboot, but that is the one I notice the most because I connect remotely.  In fact, when DHCP stops I get addresses on my devices from my ISP instead of my router.

Well... must say  It is really weired!!!! Because if you connect your ISP's cable (WAN cable) into WAN port(Gray color port) of your Almond+, the WAN IP of your Almond+ will be your IP provided by service provider. And if you connect any device to almond+ (wired/wireless) the IP should be from your almond+ LAN segment ,there is no way you will get WAN IP in LAN segment.

So can you please Check is there any way you are in AP mode or misplace the WAN cable with LAN cable (because If you connect WAN cable into LAN port, Almond+ will become bridge device and the other device connected will get the WAN IP).
And go to your Almond+ console run ps command and check following process running or not.
Process name :- /usr/sbin/dnsmasq -K -D -y -Z -b -E -s lan -S /lan/ -H /etc/lighttpd/webdav.vhosts -l /tmp/dhcp.leases -r /tmp/resolv.conf.auto --stop-dns-r

The WAN cable is connected correctly and the router is not in AP mode.  I'll wait until the problem happens again and see if dnsmasq is running or not.  My cable modem lets me connect with up to 4 devices.  My theory was when DHCP dies on the Almond+ it acts like a switch and lets the cable modem at 192.168.100.1 starts serving up IPs from my ISP.  Get back to you.

Having a similar issue here.   Everything was working perfectly, but the LCD screen was locked up.  I powered down the Almond+ to reboot it and since that time only machines that were connected prior to the reboot can connect to the Internet.   Machines that have been rebooted or booted up prior cannot connect to the internet.   Also cannot log in to the Almond+ via browser.    Very odd.

I have the same issue, my Almond+ gives out addresses from the router it is connected to. I noticed when my smartglass app wasn't showing my xbox, checked my phones address and the xbox and they were my roommates address instead of my own. Haven't figured out a solution other than restarting the router, it happens 1-3 times a month.

It seems odd!!! Why don't you try reseting the device and check it is working or not.

Before reseting device generate Archive file of your existing almond+ settings and after reset done load that archive file again.

-->To generate Archive file Go to LOCAL WEB UI > Software Tile > Backup/Restore Settings > Click on Generate Archive.
-->To load Archive file Go to LOCAL WEB UI > Software Tile > Backup/Restore Settings > Restore backup: > Browse Archive file >click on Upload

Check which mode your almond is in at that time and I already mentioned above to check the process name (Process name :- /usr/sbin/dnsmasq -K -D -y -Z -b -E -s lan -S /lan/ -H /etc/lighttpd/webdav.vhosts -l /tmp/dhcp.leases -r /tmp/resolv.conf.auto --stop-dns-r) at that particular time when it is happening.

It would be more helpful, if you could let us know the complete setup.

Rahaman,

I finally had the problem reoccur.  "/usr/sbin/dnsmasq -K -D -y -Z -b -E -s lan -S /lan/ -l /tmp/dhcp.leases -r /tmp/resolv.conf.auto --stop-dns-rebind --rebind-localhost-ok -A /redwood.lan/..." is running.

It is not running as an access point if that was what you wanted to know.  It's setup as a router with DHCP.  Here are the system and kernel logs from the WebUI.  I need to reboot so I can use my network properly again.  Let me know if you need more information and I will get it to you the next time the problem reoccurs.  My cable modem is Arris Surfboard SB6183.  Thanks.

Ok!!! Thank you for sending logs, can you please tell me which device MAC address (48:5d:60:41:9a:0f) is this, how it is connected and all?

from your logs...
May 11 21:16:47 AlmondPlus daemon.info dnsmasq-dhcp[3748]: BOOTP(br-lan) 48:5d:60:41:9a:0f no address configured.

It will be better if you send me your configuration file for troubleshooting, send it to saidur.rahaman@securifi.com
To create configuration file :-
You have to generate archive. I think you already know this   ;) ...
-->To generate Archive file Go to LOCAL WEB UI > Software Tile > Backup/Restore Settings > Click on Generate Archive.

That's my wireless printer.  I'm not at home right now, but I could get you the model later if you want.  I didn't know that was the best way to get you my settings.  Thanks for the info.  I've attached the archive.  Let me know if you need anything else.  BTW, it won't let me upload *.tar.gz files to the forum.  I threw it in a zip to get around the restriction.

Got your configuration file, tell me which firmware version you are using? And if that problem occur again, Send your system log just after few minutes (1-5 min) that problem occurs. It will be more help full. Your logs are not helping.

I was worried you'd say that. The problem is that when it happens I notice because I'm not at home. Once it occurs I have to go home to get the info because I can't connect to my remote computer. I could setup another computer, but I only notice because of a reboot and that means that the problem could have occurred hours ago. Is there anyway to increase the log size? Also, where are the logs stored on the device? I couldn't locate them. I was hoping something like /var/logs or something. Maybe I could send you some more complete logs or something.

Oops sorry I'm on R072.

Ok!! lets do this ..
When getting IPs from ISP, if you have internet connection in Almond+ just enable SSH WAN access and we will get your A+ console for troubleshooting.
send a mail to ashok.kumar@securifi.com when it happens, tell everything, he will redirect to us.
And put joe.john@securifi.com, saidur.rahaman@securifi.com in cc.

I hate to be a pain, but is there any other way to do this? I mean you'll be connecting as root, correct? It just doesn't seem like a best security practice. Maybe you could explain what you guys want to do? I'm a little unsure about this.
